Swede help

I'm a bit ahead of myself, but trying to plan for planting.

Last year our Swede were tough & tasteless. They didn't have much colour or Swede smell either. They were the same when picked early and late.

Can anyone give any tips for growing tastier Swede?

Previous years were okay.

Thanks

I tried swede last year, without a huge amount of success. What I did get tasted fine though. mrbadexample snr reckons you need a field to grow them in properly - don't ask me why!

You say that previous years were ok - did you grow them in the same place? It's recommended to rotate them to prevent clubroot disease. They are also susceptible to mildew. Suggested cultivars are Marian & Invitation for mildew & clubroot resistance.
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.
