I think the USA/Israeli strike on Iran's nuclear plants will be the wake-up call. There's a lot to be said for selling your petrol/diesel car now and getting a Toyota Prius while prices are depressed due to bad PR

Yep, fuel (and everything else) has really gone up in Euroland since we devalued the quid...
For a long time, quid to euro was around 1.40, so we've really stuck it to them pesky Belgians by increasing their fuel from £1 to £1.30 odd (or maybe they're still paying around a quid in local money..?).
Haven't checked fuel/anything price history in Euroland, just pointing out it's a bit silly saying their prices are higher because we don't get as many euros these days.
OK then, I'll only do this for Belgium as I can't be bothered with the rest
February 2003: €1.02 per litre (69.3p)
February 2010: €1.32 per litre
UK
February 2003: £0.80 per litre
February 2010: £1.12 per litre"One thing that is different, and has changed here, is the self-absorption, not just greed. Everybody is in a hurry now and there is a 'the rules don't apply to me' sort of thing." - Bill Bryson0 -
I just hope that horse out in front is Dunguib, I'm going to lose a packet on the race tomorrow otherwise.
Horrendous ride, very wide and too far back, you can't give Cheltenham horses a big lead and also run twice as far 'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher0 -
I bl00dy love my car and if any stinking pinko commie tree loving communist New-Labour SCUM BALL attempts to stop me driving it I will officially freak out.
And I am not joking. Its fricking ridiculous what we pay for petrol while those ar£se janglers claim to have their moats cleaned.0 -
The problem isn't so much the pump price. It's what it may do to inflation. It hit inflation badly last time round.0

Right, so prices at a constant exchange rate of 1.47 (€1.02 / 69.3p) would be:mustrum_ridcully wrote: »OK then, I'll only do this for Belgium as I can't be bothered with the rest

So, Belgium was cheaper and still is cheaper..?0 -

are you jeremy clarkson by any chance?
I am just a man. A man who loves freedom, and liberty.
The way things are going we'll all be driving around in little electric granny pods with a range of 15 miles and GPS tracking that sets off an alarm in Westminster if you attempt to travel outside your designated zone before you conk out and the AA comes to tow you back to your house.
Its already happening in London where cameras check your license plate every 20 yards and match it to your congestion charge account. On the Tube uless you pay the non oyster penalty fares, every single journey you make is recorded and tracked.
Think about it. Brown's government want a nation of compliant malleable sheep. Herded from one place to the next.
Stick two fingers up at Gordon and buy a huge big ba$stard of a car; and if that weasley little f3cker tries to stop you driving it then find a few others, and a lorrie driver or two ans park it in front of something bloody inconvenient.
Seemed to do the trick last time.0 -
Hey Chucky, hope you still hold those Shell shares  Good article here.
The company said that last year it added new reserves equivalent to almost three times the amount of oil and gas it pumped.
