get a card with your current back, its easy as they can see how much money you have.
tho if your a liability as mentioned i wouldnt expect credit card. they are a privilege not a right.
Target Savings by end 2009: 20,000
current savings: 20,500 (target hit yippee!)
Debts: 8000 (student loan so doesnt count)

new target savings by Feb 2010: 30,000
  • Sounds good... but my bank won't even let me have a normal debit card, I am only allowed a simple cash card :( All I want is a card I can use online and over the counter, I dont think I can even get a visa electron or a solo! :'(

Are you on electr. roll? Who do you bank with?

The problem every person applying for first card is facing is that the companies have no credit history to judge you on. The advise is always firstly apply with your own bank, because they don't search just your credit history but can also see how well you are managing your current account.

If that doesn't work, then you will need to apply for subprime credit card with high apr and take it from there - buying stuff on it and paying it off by due date and effectively building a "credit history".

But be carefull - more then two searches in 3 months can be seen as "desperate" and has bad effect on your history.
  • I am not on electoral roll... I have outstanding debt and thought this is how loan sharks etc can find you!

I am sorry mate, so why do you think someone will give you credit card???
  • to be honest I am not very sure how all this stuff works...
  • Doesn't look very promising.

What about a pre-paid O2 card. That would give you what you want and not enable you to get into debt. You do have to be an o2 customer but PAYG is fine

Basically, you've got no chance. Credit card companies score you on your credit history and also earnings, time at address, stability of the job. Electroral roll is most important as it confirms you are who you say you are.

Existing debt you are avoiding is all on your credit report and noone will touch you with a barge poll.
