Help with my graduate CV

Options
Hi,

I am applying for graduate scheme type jobs(business sector) and i could really use some help. I have always been poor at the CV stage, and if anything my CV needs to better than most in terms of wording, layout, skillset etc etc as i am already at a disadvantage i reckon with in being 3 years since my graduation.

Anyway, any fellow graduates or even better, HR professionals or employers willing to help me out and take a look for me? it would be very much appreciated.

Please send me a PM and ill be sure to get straight back to you very quickly...

Thanks

Have you seen your university Careers Service about this as they are able to help you for up to 3 years after graduation? If you have moved away from the area, your local university should be able to offer you a reciprocal service.

I came on to ask a question about CVs, so sorry for bumping in on your thread...!

I graduated last year so obviously that is more recent in my education/qualifications bit, I'm currently taking an Online Distance Learning course which is related to my degree. I know things in education usually go in chronological order but obviously degree is much more important than that online learning course. So where should it go before or after my degree on my CV? It seems a stupid question, but I want to show that I'm doing continued professional development in my own time but want to put it in the right place!
  • I just posted this in competitions - you currently have a very good chance of at least winning a book about CVs: Graduate Careers Competition

I would put it under additional information but I wouldn't do a chronological CV anyway; skills based CVs are far more appropriate, particularly for young graduates.

Ok. Thanks that's useful. I hadn't really considered doing a skills based CV as I seem to have mostly done okay thus far with how it is. But that's definitely something I will look into this week. I want to ensure my current job stays on the first page though as I think that's helped me most thus far when applying for jobs with my CV. But I'll have a jiggle, its just slightly more complicated when they don't have job specs up and just state the role (I know exactly what I want to do).

I feel i should have more of a skills list and discussion in my CV. I focus heavily on my employment history with the intention of persepctive employers picking out my skills in that.

Anybody i can email my CV to?

Someone on the employment board found a site where they could upload there CV so people could download it and have a look.

    They used this site: http://www.mediafire.com/

In the meantime take out any specific information that identifies you i.e. full name, address, phone number, exact university, names and addresses of any employers/referees from your CV so you can post it up.

You need to post a link to the site and save your CV in Word 97/2000/XP format.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

(If a link I give opens pop ups I won't know I don't use windows)
