Hi, sorry to sound simple.................:)
I need to send a deposit of 200 EURO to an account in Ireland. If I were to use online banking, do I just get the exchange rate myself and send the sterling amount of £186? Will his account read £200 EURO once it clears? Or is there an easier way to do it?

You need to talk to your bank about how to go about it. There will typically be a fee of between £10 and £30.

Believe it or not, I find PayPal* to be cheaper than banks, for facilitation of such transactions.
*when funding by bank transfer, not credit card.0
