Does my tax code change now im a father?

Hi There,

I became the proud father of a baby girl 11 days ago. my wife of course is now on maternity leave and the dreaded maternity pay.

whilst going through our outgoings and tgrying to make savings i have been told that I should ring the tax man and tell him i am a father and this should mean i get myself a better tax code?

does anyone know if this is true?

I've not heard of this. However, if your income (and that of your parnter) is low enough, you can claim child tax credits and possibly working tax credits.

That stopped at the begining of the century when child tax credits were introduced, you need to ring the HMCE and ask for the tax credit forms.

You don't get a better tax code when you get married, either. Isn't life cruel.:eek:
