Hello

Not sure if you can help I have a 1999 Corsa SXI

On sat whilst on dual carriageway engine management light came on for a couple of seconds, then went off.

The car drove ok yesterday and today until parked at the shops after being on the motorway car is making a noise which sounds like it might be coming from the back - I had to drive 50mph on the way back as I wasnt sure what would happen!

Well nothing happened thankfully. The noise is more so when moving off - but if leave the engine on it sounds like those cars with a huge exhaust lol (how embarrasing.. hear me before you see me! :rotfl:)

If I had a hole in the exhaust would that make a noise?

I will take to garage tomorrow, but thought i'd ask

Thanks

Essentially yes. A hole in the exhaust pipe means that its blowing air from where it shouldn't - often bypassing the silencer and meaning that the exhaust doesn't quite act as the ECU thinks it should. One of the symptoms is sounding like one of those cars that have an exhaust could could lose a cat up :D

  • The engine management light covers 70 sensors!! my mervia was EMG light was always comming on, call the vauxhall garage cos it could be something trival or something major.

Thanks - it hasnt come on since sat.. so I assumed a blip. Usually if there is a problem the car will drive and handle differently.

But I will drop it in to my local garage tomorrow
  • If money is tight, and the hole is on a relatively flat section of the exhaust, a temporary repair can be made.

You'd be surprised how versatile a tin of beans is :)

my astra would rust through on the exhaust, effecting the lambda sensor mostly.
