House Part Rewired

Hi all

Just had my new FTB house rewired.....it was the first big thing we had to do (loads more to come)

We had two qualified sparkies come round in the evning and spent Id say altogether about 6-7 nights to do it. They are friends of the family so we have had load of sockets (10 just in one small bedroom - office) and loads everywhere else, spotlights fitted in hall, landing, alarm cable in place, shower cable ready to use, smoke, heat alarms etc etc.......a good price too at £1600, all carried out to the regulations regarding channeling and height placements

We have had the main ring totally rewired however we opted not to rewire the kicthen as we are eventually planning on having an extension or at least a new kitchen way down the line and at that point we would have the electrics done then

Therefore the sparky will come back to do the kitchen when we want

Now my problem is that apparently we cant have a part P yet beacuse the house hasnt been completely done yet or we can have the part p but it costs £100???

I havnet spoken to him about this yet so I am a bit confused

Surely as these regulations change so much I must have something on paper to confirm the quality of the work??

I dont want to have to rewire the lot in say 5years because the regs have changed so he cant give me a part p unless the newly rewired house is rewired again along with the kitchen

What do you guys think?

was this job done as a cash in hand job, if it was through a proper company they should have supplied you with a test certificate for the work completed, but as a casher job you might struggle to get them to sign it. I'm not to sure on Part P regs (as I live and work in Scotland they don't apply here) but I thought a certificate should be issued after any minor works.
