No receipt but faulty goods

Options
Can anyone help please? I bought my son football boots at the beginning of December when he got the sheet from school about the sport he would be taking next year. He's only just started playing now but one of the studs fell out of one of the boots . When I took them back to JJB she told me if I didn't have receipt then I could only get the lowest price they went down to (£10 less!) Meaning I had to pay the difference to what they are now. I thought if goods were faulty, it didn't matter that I didn't have a receipt? Can anyone tell me if she is correct?

A receipt doesnt matter BUT you do need proof of purchase to prove that you did indeed buy them and for what price. If you paid by cash, tough luck and take their offer. If you paid by card, take your statement as they will be able to see what you paid and when (providing you only bought the one item)

If you can recall the date you could ask them nicely to find the transaction on their computer if they can.

You are correct that you don't have to have the receipt for faulty goods but without it they can only offer the latest selling price. Did you pay by card as a bank statement should be able to prove how much you paid.
  • How did you originally pay?

If you paid by credit card for example, your credit card statement should be sufficient proof.
