Possitive pregnancy test

My wife has done a home pregnancy test this morning and it has come back possitive - we have been trying for a year and this will be our first - now we are worried about where we go now? - We have worked out that she will now be 4 weeks gone - how long do we leave it before we tell anyone? - we are both really excited and im not sure how long im going to be able to keep it in for - how long will it be till the first scan? - How reliable are these home pregnancy test is she really possitive?

    Well congratulations!
I would suggest your wife gets to the gp soon so scans can be organised etc.
I know it's hard but it may be a good idea to keeep it to yourself for the first 12 weeks till yu are out of the first tri mester and things are well on their way.
the tests are pretty accurate but you local family planning can do another test for free just to confirm.
    Best of Luck!

It really is difficult to believe when a test comes out positive. First thing is go to your GP's, get booked in. first scan will be around 14 weeks, and second about 20 weeks.

You will get all the info u need when a midwife does the booking in, with loads of leaflets and freebies to collect.

PPl normally leave it 12 weeks before they tell anyone, but its down to you and when u feel like sharing the news.

    Anyway, congratulations and good luck.

    Hi. Firstly congratulations!!! :T

You asked how reliable home kits are.....When we were trying I done 2 or 3 tests over a few days just to be sure. I find the home kits reliable but had to do more than one to make sure I wasn't dreaming :D

As for telling people.....personally after both my pregnancies ended in miscarriages I'd not tell anyone till (at the very least) 3 months. I hope everything will be fine for you both and I don't want to put a dampner on your news but having told people we were expecting only to lose the pregnancy is absolutely horrible.

I think that these days your first scan could be anywhere from 3-4 months but not really sure as I didn't get that far.

We told family as soon as we saw two blue lines\with both of ours!! Neither of us could hold it in! I know people like to wait until the 12 week scan though 'just to be sure'.

Congratulations! I would go to docs so you can be booked in with the midwife and arrange first scans etc and I have always waited untill after my dating scans (12wks) to mention anything to anyone - just incase.

Enjoy this as its a lovely time getting ready for baby to arrive :)

    Congratulations:T:T:T:T

Your wife needs to advise her GP straight away & will get a midwife apppointment for around 10-12 weeks, depends on your area if they do a scan at around 12-14 weeks, some do some only do one at around 20 weeks.

Convention says you wait until you are out of the first tri-mester at 13 weeks before you tell anyone, in reality this is almost impossible because you are bursting to tell everyone & your wife may be suffering from nausea & literally falling asleep whilst standing up (v. common in first tri-mester) so it's not hard to guess. Saying that, it must be absoutly shattering to tell people then have to tell them bad news later on, keep it private as long as you can or at the most only tell those you are very very close to. (I told my boss as I was throwing up all the time so he thought something was wrong & my best friend so that I had someone to share with, waited until 10 weeks to tell my parents & 14 weeks to tell everyone else)

Home pregnancy tests are as reliable as any other, it is impossible to get a false positive.

    Enjoy being pregnant:T

You say she's about 4 weeks pregnant, well if your anything like i was i told everyone as soon as i knew :D If my mum had rang me and i knew i was pregnant no way could i not spill the beans :D

Telling him to wait until 12 weeks is a bit long, i mean it's like putting the frighteners on him..

Go on tell your parents at least :D

It's just that if anything did go wrong, your parents would be there for you. You don't have to broadcast it everywhere, but tell your parents :D
