Hi guys,
just been given a large fridge/freezer was just after a freezer for my shed but thought as it was free too good to turn down.
Now will this cause problems for me, as have heard it might not run correctly.
this is one whole unit
thanks

We have a chest freezer that has lived happily in the garage at the botton of the garden for the last 12 years.I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0

A freezer should work ok but a fridge freezer may not. Most are designed to operate above 10 deg and use the temp in the fridge to run the motor and determine the temp in the freezer compartment. If the ambient temp is low the fridge will not need to be made colder therefore the freezer will not freeze.0

You also need to make sure that the circuit it's plugged into is RCD protected as there is a greater risk of electric shock when equipment is located outside the main house.

I second molerat, most fridge freezers only take a temperature reading from the fridge, so if it's 3degrees outside, the fridge is plently cold enough, so the motor doesn't kick in. Unfortunatly the freezer is too warm, and all your frozen stuff has melted.Unless it is damaged or discontinued - ignore any discount of over 25%0

I have a separate freezer and a fridge in the garage. The freezer has been going strong for 13 years.
I've been through 2 or 3 second hand fridges as the motor has packed in on them, but all were someone else's cast off to begin with.0 -
I have asked a similar question in The Arms, as our fridge/freezer defrosts itself when it is too cold.
We are not using it now and need to buy a new one.
Chest freezers seems to not be readily available.Member #14 of SKI-ers club
