Cahoot - desperately trying to close account

Hi, hope im posting in the right thread:D

I have been trying unsuccessful to close my account for over two months now.
The main problems are:

Cahoots inability to cance a Sky payment via automatic card and close my account in a timely fashion.

It takes 4-5 days to transfer cash into the account which is ridiculously long considering its two hours between say HSBC and Lloyds.
This sky automatic payment comes out on the 8th of each month. I have spoken to sky to cancel this months ago as I pay it from a different account. They say the responsibility lies with Cahoot to reject the payment(makes perfect sense to me).
Ive asked cahoot to cancel the card and reject any payments which they have claimed to have done but each month the £50 for sky comes out and puts me back under 0 balance, and thus i have to start the account closing procedure all over again.

I am at a lose, i have to keep putting more money in each month to cover the sky payment then have to wait 20-30 days for the accoutn to be closed. This then pretty much overlaps with the next sky payment causing this endless cycle.

Surely it cannot be this hard?
Any advice would be much appreciated as trying to get cahoot on the phone is like an extreme sport.

Thanks

Ben

  • Can you clarify whether the payment to Sky is a Direct Debit or Continuous Payment Authority via debit card.

The reason why this is relevant is because if it is the former (unlikely given the details of your post), you should have been able to cancel this online yourself without relying on Cahoot as you will see it in your Direct Debits list.

If it is the latter, Sky are telling you porkies and you should get back on the phone to them - closing your Cahoot account would not stop the monthly payments being claimed from the debit card under a Continuous Payment Authority. Sky needs to stop claiming them (if there is such an authority on the debit card, the bank cannot reject the payments).

I closed my Cahoot current account quite easily, however I had transferred all my direct debits and then cancelled them via online banking before I even told Cahoot the good news.

I also made sure that my pension was paid into my new account for 2 months before I closed it.

i dont believe that works with recurring payments as youve already given consent for them to take the payment

sky have to stop taking it

Sky will keep taking the payment until you either cancel the Sky account or set up another way to pay Sky. If you have already arranged to pay Sky another way then they either aren't doing it or they are taking a double payment. This is definately a Sky problem as it is them taking the payment.

First thing are you on a fixed term contract? If so and it' hasn't expired they are entitled to charge you ubtil it does. If it has finished, write a letter to Sky disputing the payments and stating when the contract finished, and demand a refund of all additional payments..Keep a copy of the letter.

I'm with Cahoot. Their customer service is virtually non-existent. How did you try to close down your account with Cahoot? I'd have waited until the last payment was taken out of your account then closed the account down immediately.

If Sky don't refund you write again giving them 7 working days to refund you. If that gets nowhere then take out a summons against Sky in the small claims court..But to succeed you must be certain that they have been charging you unnecessarily.
