Like for like car replacement.

I'm just debating whether it's worth spending an extra £200 on my insurance premium to go with one that has 'like for like' replacement. I'm buying a new car, so am a bit wary of the insurance that only offers replacement at market-value. So I was just wondering what your thoughts were?
Also I was wondering if a car is stolen and never recovered, is that classed as being written-off?

  • NFU gives 2 years like for like replacement for new cars included in their policy, which are competitive for me.

Thanks, I've just requested a quote from them, though they look like they will be pretty expensive. Shame you can't get a quote online.

Fairly sure Saga do a similar deal on new cars up to two years old, but of course you do need to be 50+ to use them.

I think I found a way to do it cheaply. Get the admiral insurance and then get GAP insurance for about £100 covering the car for 3 years. I've been playing around and think I can still get this cover for £200 cheaper than Direct Line.

The only problem with that is you end up with an Admiral Policy.

I think if your getting a quote for Gap at £100 you are buying a straight forward GAP shortfall policy which will just pay off any difference between the finance and the claim settlement. I would be surprised if you have got RTi or Vehicle Replacement Insurance for £100

Yeah, it's return to invoice, car value 12800, 3 years cover with max £7500 payout. Click4gap including the £22 cashback. From my understanding if Admiral only pay the market value, they will make up the rest, giving me the full 12,800.
BTW, I'm paying cash not finance.

That's a good price you have secured for RTI, very MSE it's a shame you can't get anyone to beat the Admiral price

To be honest, all of the Gap insurance quotes I had were around that price. Click4gap were actually one of the most expensive, but you get cashback and they are one of the better known ones as far as I'm aware.

The only other insurance companies that were close, were Diamond and Elephant. But they are all the same company anyway.

This is a really useful and interesting thread, I've recently had a real pain in the proverbial trying to get a good car insurance deal and finally Admiral (who I'm with for one of our cars) gave me an extremely competitive multi car proposal, beat everyone else hands down, (Barclays who covers our other car couldn't have been any worse, hopeless or useless).

I don't get the new car until 27th March and paying cash but the dealer tried to sell me “new for old” insurance as a top up for my new (second hand car) , I hadn't heard of this concept before, …they insure the difference from your own insurers payout to the full value of the price you paid originally, for 3 years cover. BUT they wanted £349, I think it's a great idea…. but £349 seems a bit too steep.

Its from TLP ( Eastern Western Motor Group) Invoice price between £15,001 and £25,000 max claim limit £10,000.

    PS

Why do some of my keys not work properly when typing on this forum, £ is # and “ is @ for example ??
