Voipcheap T&Cs change.

I've noticed at the bottom of the tariff page for Voipcheap that UK landline "free" calls are now to be limited to 300 minutes a week. After that they are going to charge "1 cent" per minute! The screws are tightening!

Yes, it's been like this for a month or two.
BTW which VoIP Cheap are you referring to? There are two separate services, the .com one and the .co.uk one.
Though both VoIP Cheaps and the other services run by Finarea/Betamax such as VoIP Stunt, VoIP Buster also implemented the 300 free mins per week a month or two ago too. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0 -
It's the .co.uk one. I don't recall seeing the asterix on the tariff rates before and I haven't been with them long so it surprised me as I checked the T&Cs then. Still it is small print!!
Don't think I'll bother with them much more, the second line is neat but I can't see myself saving anything over 1899 / 18185 (until they change too).0 -
I use VoIP Stunt (along with Sipgate), the 300 mins per week is fine for me, I don't do a great deal of phoning, when phoning relatives in the evening or weekend they are on Primus 2, so call me back for free, during the day I use my free minutes.
I don't have a normal phoneline (not for the past 12 months or so), so rely on VoIP, as I have cable broadband you don't need a phoneline, so that saves me £11 per month. I don't mind paying 50p per week for VoIP Stunt. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0 -
All their numerous Voip offerings now carry the statement.
"Max 300 minutes per week of free calls, measured over the last 7 days. Unused free minutes cannot be taken to the following week(s).
If limit is exceeded, a minimal rate of 1ct/min will be charged "
Another one they have recently launched https://www.poivy.com which carries an ad for another one freecalls.0 -
I see your point, Bextech. Unfortunatley cable isn't possible where I live so I need the regular line for broadband as well. I may consider getting a proper Voip phone (ip assigned) if the price comes down as I hate using the USB ones and having to rely on a PC being on, if the hassle isn't offset by a saving it doesn't make sense for me.0

Blimey! they're breeding like rabbits:rotfl:0 -
If you have to have a landline, as you say you are in a non-cabled area, so the answer to that is yes, then I'd say the best solution is BT landline rental, free caller display, then Primus 2 for free evening and weekend calls and then 1899 and 18185.
If you have Sky TV then it might be worth going along the Sky Talk route as that's just £5 for 24/7 free calls to landlines, though you still pay £5/month even if you make no calls, so is only worth it if you make over 166 daytime calls per month.
