Off to Cambodia / Best place for Travel clothes

Hi,

I've just found out I am going to Cambodia later this year for about two weeks. It is a little early to be thinking about packing - however I am looking for suppliers of 'travel clothing' ie - lightweight, easily dryable, breathable etc etc.

I had a look in Millets today and there wasn't a great selection to pick from - and thats in the summer - dread to think what it'll be like come November time.

Unfortunately (or not - however you look at it!) I am losing weight, so am really loathe to buy clothes now, as they may not fit come the trip. I would like information on who does these clothes, so that I'll be prepared nearer the time.

Many many thanks...

FF

PS - already found 'CragHoppers' - I like the 'convertable' and 'nosquito' ranges as they look very versitile.

Have you tried Primark or shopping in the sales, all you will need for cambodia are t'shirts, lightweight trousers, ie combats, 3/4 lengths and some shorts.

For walking boots if you are off exploring try places like asda, etc or again look for some that are reduced

We went to Cambodia in September/October and it was very hot and humid.

    Hope that helps

    Hi,

I'm going out with Oxfam - so will not be doing the tourist areas - but will be getting out into the rural areas where they are working.

    Thanks anyway

I went to Vietnam for a month 2 years ago and it was so hot you can get away with about 4 pairs of short trousers or shorts (lightweight) and about 4 tops, bikini and swimming costume. Wash out clothes in your hotel sink and they will dry in about 10 minutes. I even used to go out in wet clothes and they would be dry in 5 to 10 minutes. No one worries about looking smart or having ironed clothes.

There are also a lot of cheap tailors there so anything you havn't got can be made for about £1 per garment. I had a lovely red and black evening dress made to measure for me for £3.50. It's unbelievably cheap there.

You won't need much sun protection. Even though it was an unbearable 45 to 50 degrees in the shade you are in the shade all the time. It's very humid and overcast and there are lots of trees so you are in the shade most of the time. I found I didnt need a hat to keep the sun off my head as I was in the shade most of the time. A hat just kept more body heat in.

If you're stopping off in Bangkok, why not get your clothes there for next to nothing? Cotton and silk.

Rohan do travel clothes which are lightweight - they are normally quite pricey to buy although they may have a sale on - or as you are only in Northanpton it might be worth a trip to MK as they have a factory/discount shop in Giffard Park - next to the local centre. Let me know if you need more info & I will try & dig it out for you!

I am near to MK - I had forgotton about the shop in Gifford Park - thanks for the memory jog.

I certainly will NOT be taking very much with me. We are very light packers in our household - prefer to wash & wear rather than pack loads. Not sure I'd have the time to 'shop' though as not going as a tourist.

Thank you all for your suggestions.

  • Don't forget a silk/cotton sleeping bag liner (cotton cheaper but silk more compact, dries quicker and keeps both cool & warm)
  • not that it's strictly clothing though!
