    Thanks for the reply dunstonh,

I was thinking about unit trusts.
I have no idea of the differences between manager of manager funds and fund of funds. I'm on something of a steep learning curve here and am beginning to think that reading is not enough and I'd be better off going to see an IFA.

    Thanks anyway

I have never used an IFA and have done well. An excellent site for investment performance is Citywire. Its easy to use and make comparisons between one trust and another in the same field. Have a look a Jupiter Trust of Investment Trusts(check this name). When I was looking last week the performance looked impressive. I am thinking of doing my £4,000 in it this year. If it does not have to be an investment trust have a look at Invesco Perpetual Income and High Income. There are so many and I have made a few poor decisions but you can't win them all and my gains far exceed any losses.

My point is don't dwell on past statistics too much and don't think short-term. Just because investment x has done well in the past 6 months doesn't mean it's going to continue doing well etc.(This quote was from Hobbesandco- I haven't done it right)

Yes, you are right. I was getting all hot and bothered last weekend when checking my M&G Pep investments. I'd had a Corporate Bond and decided to split it into some other of their funds. (No charge). As at last weekend they had all lost money but I'd only changed to them in March. I decided to sit on it for a bit but when putting the papers away I noticed a note I had made that when I first selected these three new investment they had increased by £800 in just two weeks. Got to think long term! But overall I don't think M&G have been doing very well. They are now part of the Pru and have some new talent so maybe things will improve.
