Deep scratch scratch on new car. Chips Away? Others? Also, removing swirl marks?

Someone has scratched our car. Not very impressed as we had only had it a few weeks but when we took it to be valeted the other day we have noticed a few light scratches over it (guessing it is where I go up the lanes). We have to, at least, get the scratch done which is quite deep. I wonder if anyone had any recommendations at all please? I have a leaflet for Chips Away. Do they charge a huge amount? My husband heard that Halfords do scratch repairs for £50. The scratch is about 5 inches long - not wide but is very visible as it is a black car.
My husband also reckons it needs a 'colour polish' as it has light swirls in the paintwork - obviously where it has been cleaned? Is there anyone else that can do something like this or is there something else anyone can advise? It is black Mica paint.
Thanks

Don't use that valeter again."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0 -
He didn't do a very good job tbh but it wasn't him that scratched it - it was there before and I am sure the light scratches are where we go down the lanes and have to pull in at times. However, with spring coming we would like to get it looking nice.
We usually go to Asda and get it done there and they do a good job but want it done 'properly' and want the scratch done as hubby said it is down to the metal and will start to rust eventually.0 -
I've heard these 'dent devil' type mobile scratch & dent repairers are usually pretty good and reasonable, but don't have any personal experience.
The swirls are usually due to putting the car through an automatic car wash (not jet wash), so don't do that.
AdrianHi did something to his BMW to get rid of the swirl marks very effectively, you might want to PM him.0 -
I've used ChipsAway in the past and they were pretty good, especially as it was for a metallic paint repair. They charged about the same as Halfords, a lot of main dealers will use them for minor scratch repairs but bear in mind they are a franchise business.0

I had chips away come out and they quested me £200 to get rid of the scratch as it had to go down to the bare metal it was an 'an all day job'. Hmmmm.
Funny this thread should come up now, I am having a bloke coming to valet my car on Thursday and he is doing a hand wax with Colour Magic which is supposed to get rid of the swirl marks. We shall see. I am past getting it done and paying good money on top of bad so that every ignorant !!!!!! that has no respect for other peoples property can scratch other peoples new cars they feel like it. So, for now, colour magic is going to have to do.0 -
