Waste of time my one was. I paid £6 a month and when it got run over they charged me £25 excess and only replaced the screen so it was all dented still. That made me mad considering it was a year old (in the world of mobiles this equates to a relic). Also they can be very picky. For example, a friend of mine had her phone on vibrate and it fell off the table on to the floor and broke but they wouldn't do anything because they said she wasn't taking "necessary precautions" to take care of it?

I would recommend the insurance, only because of the call limits. A few months back, someone on this site was stung with a £6000 bill from Vodafone after having his phone stolen. They reduced it to £3000 but he was liable for the full amount.

The networks will NOT pay off your bill if your phone is stolen and you do not have insurance/haven't reported it quick enough to have it cut off.

As for the previous poster - that sounds awful, you should check that your insurance policy has new-for-old replacement to ensure you get what is expected.

Also worth remembering that almost all policies now have an excess of between £25-£35.

WHATEVER you do, ALWAYS use a recognised insurer, don't go with someone you haven't heard of as that is where the horror stories come from.
Treat others as you would like to be treated :A
  • Thanks for the reply, can people post the names of their insurers please. Only post if you are happy with the insurer, thanks
  • Is it correct that these companies only usually cover you for a certain amount of calls? So in theory even with insurance I could still end up with a large bill?

    OP,
Many home insurers will bolt on Personal Possesions cover (cover for items taken away from the home) for a fixed fee. For example, my friend is with Esure and they have £2500 general cover for £31.50 per year extra. The XS is £60 so that may make the claim not so worth it, but the beauty is it also covers other general personal possesions- cash, credit cards, clothing, cameras, golf clubs, laptops etc (and is worldwide too). If you had to claim for more than one thing, the XS is offset so it may be viable to you.

Something like this may be worth considering if you do have contents insurance.
