EDIT:
NOW SORTED.
i have left the original query below to help others.
heres a reply i found to a thread on consumer action group:
worked a treat.
also, i was ringing them due to a £25.00 overdraft charge apllied to my account. i was told this is a known error that was added to all 11th March statements and that they were in the process of removing the charge. anyone who rings up will have the charge removed there and then.
hope this helps.
i wonder if anyone can help?
how do you actually contact Santander by phone?
i have never had need to until just getting my latest statement which informs me they are charging £25 for going overdrawn although i have NEVER gone overdrawn.
i have tried loads of numbers but each time i am asked to enter both my card number and my telephone banking number.
whats a telephone banking number?
i cant seem to speak to anyone without it but dont have one. even using the search facility on Santanders site returns no results for "telephone banking number".
thank you.

Dunno if you've already dealt with this, but in case you haven't...
Why not ring them on the free phone number 08007317774
They have changed the 4 digit number to the 5 digit number. When you get to the bit it asks you for the number, put in whatever 4 digit you had before (or any random) until they tranfer you to a live person. Then they will ask you to set up a new one on the phone (5 digit one). And hey presto, you;re sorted.

It is a toss up between Santander and Nationwide as to who has the worst customer services - truly truly awful - both of them.0
