I want to fly to Tokyo

Hi

I want to fly to Japan, Tokyo - preferably direct as cheaply as possible - hopefully for less than £500. Any tips?

So do I, it's been my dream since I was 6 to go there. One day though (when a Watermelon in Shinjuku doesn't cost £69). :)

    Hi save-a-lot,

You should get more help with finding flights on the Travel board, so I'll move your thread over there.

    Hi

Thanks so far, cheapest from Sidestep is £765 from Manchester and £700 from Birmingham, if possible I want cheaper than this. Any more tips?

I flew two years ago with Aeroflot (Russia's national airline) from London to Tokyo via Moscow, with a 9 hour stopover on the way there and a bomb scare on the way back (I never fly anywhere without an adventure happening along the way)
It was about £500 for flights at the begining of September but I can't remember who I booked it with. The planes were a bit old but it meant that you got bigger seats like they all used to have and you can stock up on Russian vodka on the way there and back.

How about being prepared to connect in Europe somewhere? You will often find that airlines who want to attract customers from outside their own country will lower the price a lot if you are prepared to make a connection.

Or, you might want to fly FROM Europe. For instance, imagine you choose to go with BA. If you fly from say, Amsterdam or Paris, then into LHR and make the connection from there, you will often be able to get a substantial discount. Just fly with EasyJet or something to the European part.

I'm guessing you might be put off by the inconvenience of the latter option, so look into the former.

Or look into taking a low-cost flight to Europe and then check out the prices from various European cities. It is often cheaper.

I think Qantas are doing a deal for about £700 which includes two internal flights: If you want to see other places in Oz, then this might be the way to go.

I'm flying out in three weeks and we used the airline network. Malaysia Airlines seemed to be the cheapest (we're going Qantas). Then you have various Chinese airlines. At one point, I would not have recommended flying any Chinese organization, but I gather China Eastern / Southern Airlines are fine.

You could also try connecting through the Middle East. Emirates offer some reasonable deals. You will have have to change planes twice I think if you go this route. It depends if you don't mind the inconvenience.

I've found you a direct flight from London for £550. You'd better be very quick.
