£29 for a 14 hour call with Talk Talk.

Hi all.

It has been a while since I was here as I have had little to complain about with Talk Talk.

I received my online bill last week and was expecting it to be around £20 as usual.

£49 odd.I almost had a heart attack! :eek::eek::eek:
I looked at the itemised bil and amongst an otherwise clear bill was a 14 hour call to my lovely Mum at 21.56 on the 11th of February.
This call cost £29.00.

I rang Talk Talk and the very nice Steve immediately knocked off £15 of it bringing it down to £35 and he arranged the fault team to look into it.

Had a call the next day and there was no fault on the line.He suggested I get in touch with my Mum,who would ring her service provider and see if there was a 14 hour call logged as incoming.I rang the Post Office (Mums provider) and they said there was not a log of incoming calls, just an itemised bill of outgoing calls.
When I explained what had happened the lady explained that with the Post Office there is a cut off point during a long call to avoid this kind of thing happening.
She also said that even if my Mum had put the phone down her end and I didn't,it is still a connected call (news to me!) :(

I rang Talk Talk again and explained there was no fault and was there anything else I could do.
There isn't.I have to foot this bill which at £35 is £15 higher than I would normally pay,but as I had £15 knocked off,was better than £49.....

I was rather hoping that as a long term customer they would just wipe the £29 as it was obviously a mistake.I have a new walkabout phone and obviously didn't put it back properly.
I now make double sure that when I put my phone back on I wait for the 'beep' and have rung all my friends with similar phones and they are going to warn their kids.
Does anyone know if there is anything else I can do?

Many thanks.

So how long were you actually on the phone to her for?
Would this number and time have been an inclusive call within your TT package?
I thought that TT inclusive calls only lasted 59 mins, after that they are chargeable , so you need to redial before the hour is up.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

I have had this happen to me a few times. Sounds like you didn't hang up correctly and the call was connected all through the night.

I didn't hang up correctly and was still connected to the line. Even though the other caller hung up, I am sometimes still connected which is odd. Best thing to do is always make sure you hang up correctly.

Atleast you got some money knocked off your bill.

    Macman.
I usually only ring my Mum for half an hour max...And I know all about the hour cut of point...This was a mistake as I definately wouldn't have talked to my Mum all night...

When I looked again at my bill I made a call exactly 14 hours later,so that is how I knew it was my fault.

I was rather hoping Talk Talk would wipe it all but no luck. :(

    Big lesson learnt.

Be interesting to know how many folk this happens to.And it would be good if Talk Talk adopted a cut off point like the Post Office does....
