Just bought a Clematis on impulse
Hi guys, doing our weekly shop at morrisons this week i noticed they were doing Clematis for £1.79, thought for a pound odds its worth a punt, i got a Clematis Comtesse de Bouchard, seems its quite a good one from what info i can see on the net.
Will this do ok if i plant it out the now or will i have to harden it off in my plastic green house for a wee while?, iv got the perfect spot in the garden for it, gets sun all day and it can climb up the fence
.
Cheers
sorry about the different fonts, it wont change to the same font for some reason.

I'd be inclined to harden it off for a while. It's been a cold winter and the grond is still cold. I've got a clematis I took acutting from last yer, it's been growing quite happily on the kitchen windowsill, but I'm not putting that out just yet. BTW that's a bargain.well done
I get paid to smell great :j0 -
Remember to plant it deeper than it is now, this will ensure should you get wilt it will send up new shoots from below ground
And roots in shade, head in sun is the watchword for clematis
Sorry if i have just taught you to suck eggs

the plant i got has a good bit of growth sprouting from the base already, should i cut it back and plant as you said or just plant it at the same base hight its at the now?
also its already 2ft high so dont think it will be happy in the house for long , if it put it in the platic green house would it be ok in there for a couple of weeks then plant out.
im such a noob at this lol the othet half expects me to grow loads of veg at the first go this year lol, she is so going to be disapointed lol0 -
I have grown one of these successfully in my old house, and it came from Morrisons too. I got mine going in the greenhouse until the risk of frost was gone. They like their roots to be cool, I planted mine a bit deeper, as mentioned, but also but some stones around the base.0

right this things taking off at an alarming rate, bought it 2 weeks ago, it was around 12" now its around 30", i repotted it and put 2 canes in for it to climb up, its now taller than the canes lol.
can i cut it back a bit till its ready to go outside??0 -
I don't know where you live, I'm in Hampshire and my outdoor clematis is sprouting and growing away, so assuming you are not in Aberdeen I would put it outside in the daytime, bring in at night
Do this for about a week or so [maybe until after Easter?], then plant it outNumerus non sum0 -
im in Falkirk m8, inbetween Glasgow and Edinburgh, i see we are going to get bad weather this week so might wait till thats over with.
