Rust from a PVC window sill

Not sure if this is the right place to post but feel free to move if not.

I have a tin money box on my bedroom window sill (very MSE) but as my window is normally open all the time at some stage it has got wet with rain and the box has rusted and left a big ring.

I have no idea how to try and get rid of it, any ideas?

Thanks

Try Cif cream rubbed in very gently.

Have you tried some white vinegar? If you do don't forget to rinse with clean water afterwards. Failing that try some Cif.

  • WD40 should do the trick........ and if you put clear nail varnish on the bottom of the tin rust will not go on to any surface

    Hi

If this is a PVCu window cill then you can use Cif (Jif). It is slightly abrasive, you should test a very small area first!
Be very gentle and take it slowly.
You can get special PVCu cleaners, I think that they are also abrasive!

Please check the material first, very often the internal boards are a melamine coated mdf, again test on a very small area first.

    Good luck

I know you've tried bleach but have you tried Fairy power spray (still has bleach in)?

I dyed my window sill with red circles from base of tea lights, unlit just damp. Tried soaking in bleach on cotton wool pads for 24 hours and was still there!! 30 mins with Fairy spray and red was gone :j

I would try cream cleaner, gently. I've used bleach before on plastic window sills, they turned yellow, be careful with neat bleach

Try Barkeepers Friend. That gets most things off.

Before buying anything special I would try and acids you have around - especially coke, salt and vinegar, lemon juice...
