Refunded by website, but not credited to my bank account. what to do?

Options
I subscribed to a website & thought i'd cancelled the subscription, but i mustn't have & got billed for it.

Looked on the cancellation site & it said a refund is available.

Got in touch via online live support & cancelled the subscription there & was told a refund would be given to me. Wait 10 working days

10 days pass, no credit, i get back in touch

wait a few more days i'm told, the refund is pending

Wait a week, get back in touch

I'm now told the refund has been given. They can't tell me when though, but only that it's been given.

There's no credit on my account & no pending credit either. So i've not been credited basically

I had a feeling this would happen

Fee is just shy of £30. Is there anything i can do?

Why on earth can't they tell the date they made the refund?

I would write to them asking for (written) details of the amount refunded, date, account number and sort code they sent it to. If there is no mistake in the sort code/account number, send a copy to your bank with covering letter asking for an explanation.

That way you will at least be able to establish where the fault lies.

My bank says that they can't do anything without a refund reciept.

I've asked this company for a receipt & they go all around the houses & basically just wont give me one.

They keep telling me not to worry, my subscription has been cancelled. I tell them i'm not worrying about that, i want my refund.

Give it a few more days i KEEP getting told. I've given you a bloody month & more i say. Give it a few more days.

    I'm being given the runaround.

They tell me it's down to my bank. I tell them the bank say no its not. They then tell me it's down to the bill operator (or whatever term they used). I get in touch with a linked site & lo & behold the website who are telling me it's down to the bill operator ... THEY ARE the bill operator.

I ask why they wont get it sorted, they basically don't answer.

Come back to us if you don't get the refund through they say.

So you're telling me to give it a few more days .... not get the refund .... come back to you .... you tell me give it a few more days ..... i don't get the refund ...... come back to you [sense a pointless exercise here?]

If i had a refund receipt via email i'd be laughing, but i've nothing & they wont send any confirmation either.

I'm thinking i'm not going to win this one.

Of course you will win this one.

Write them a letter before action telling them that they owe you £nn and if they do not credit your account <details here> within the next 10 days you will start legal action to recover the money.

Google letter before action for many sample letters.
