You are probably trying to book too early - assuming this is the end of June or later when the Jacobite commences weekend operations then cheap rail fares from London won't be released yet - I'd guess you need to wait another month for that.0

Cheap tickets have only been released up till 4th June. Keep monitoring on http://eastcoast.co.uk/
Consider also the FirstScotRail Caledonian Sleeper service - it might look expensive but it gets you into Fort William in the morning rather than late afternoon0 -
I have taken the trip many times and it is amazing! well worth the money, here is some recent footage of the steam train in all its glory (complete with a wee chat with the train driver!)
Just type helensburgh.tv into your URL bar and go to the steam train story!0 -
The train is good - but I'd personally recommend driving the route to Mallaig instead, then getting on the ferry to Armadale and coming back via the Skye bridge and A87 Of course it's not as romantic as the train journey, but it's one of the best drives in the UK.0
