would it be cheaper to buy seeds than plants. i only need one of each plant really and then i'd have loads of seeeds left over - not very MSe!

Your garden will look a bit strange if you only have one of each of these plants. Usually plants like this are planted in groups of three, five or seven (according to Gertrude Jekyll
).
For the cheapest plants - which doesn't necessarily mean the best performing - I would try car boot sales and markets.
If you do grow from seed, you can usually keep the seed for several years, especially if they're stored in an airtight container in your fridge.0 -
Have a wander round your neighbourhood, i've found just chatting to other keen gardeners often turns up a wealth of cuttings & seed heads, you can buy mixed packs of cottage seeds for around £1 from most supermarkets/garden centres.

Why not have a go and give any spares away, car boot them or sell them at the school fair.LBM 10/08 £12510.74/0 -

TBH I find the cheapest to be whatever the slus and snails will leave alone. I find lungwort, snowdrops, daffodils, roses, clematis, honeysuckle, michaelmas daisies, day lillies and sedums to be quite slug proof."The purpose of Life is to spread and create Happiness" :j0
