nPower Standing Charge Query
Options
Hello,
I apologise for asking such an obvious question, however I'm partially sighted and having difficulty finding the specific information I'm looking for.
We just received a high energy bill from nPower and have decided to look for a cheaper supplier. Initial searches seem to indicate that EDF may be the best bet, however I'm a little unsure about the standing charge situation. Comparing both suppliers (nPower on nPower's website and EDF on energyhelpline.com), EDF seem to have an annual standing charge even though their unit prices are cheaper. However, I can't find if nPower also have a standing charge. If they do not, then they may be cheaper simply as they may be incorporating the standing charge into their unit costs.
I would be grateful if anyone could advise me as to whether or not nPower have a standing charge for their gas and electricity, and if so, what it is.
Thanks in advance,
H.

If, on your nPower bill, you can see a 'tier 1' or 'primary units' followed by 'tier 2' or 'secondary units' then it is very likely you don't have a standing charge on your tariff, as it is incorporated into your charges as you suggest0

The easiest comparison to make between a standing charge and nil standing charge is to compare "2nd tier" or "secondary units" to the normal charge on a standing charge tariff, as the "1st tier" or "primary energy" accomodates all standing charge charges within. Failing that, juts ask the new provider to supply a nil standing charge price. All energy providers have a NSC tariff unless it's something like equi or ebico, as they only have one rate regardless due to it originally being for the church or something like that.0

Hi,
Thanks. Yes, there is a secondary tier, although it's given as X price per units after the first Y units at Z price.
I'll ask EDF to supply me a NSC price.
Thanks for your help.
