DRO and benefit backpay question

I am thinking of doing a DRO, have £4k debt but no longer in a position to pay what I was.

I have put in a claim for Income Support but it got declined, am currently going through reconsideration/appeal.

Although I work 8 hours a week, I should get between £20-40 a week IS, which should be backdated to December, same as Tax Credits.

Would this money class as an asset, it would be over the £300 mark but would be money that I should have had in the first place. If it does, that puts me kind of back at square one!

Have an appointment with the CAB Thursday to get an appointment with a money adviser ( why cant I just make that appointment myself, and save one for someone that needs general advice I dont know!)

Thanks in advance!
