Static attacks all the time

Options
I keep getting static attacks all the time, if I touch car door metal, in the home if I touch a metal tap. Is there anything I can do to stop this?

Touch the car door with your covered arm before using your bare hand.

Hi, you are not getting a static shock , you are giving static. The electrical charge is building up on you and when you go anywhere near a discharge path to earth the charge jumps from you to earth. As !!!!!! jokeingly suggests nylon is a common culprit. It can be for many reasons including acrylic carpets and clothes and rigorous exercise (rubbing clothes) . If it is particularly bad regularly discharging yourself by touching a nearby radiator or other earth path can minimise the build up. Have you changed your routine or bought new clothing lately?

Yes, I would also suggest that you could try to discharge yourself atleast before touching the car.

    This should help you. :)

Try gripping the metal part of a key quite firmly and touching the tip of the key against the metal of the car. This way the spark discharges from the key and not your skin. It's far less painful!

You can buy anti static shampoo (Aussie) and use an ionic hairdryer. Make sure you use fabric conditioner in your washing as well.

I am just trying to figure why this subject has been posted on this particular board.

    Probably more to the point:
Why does this board still exist? The award for the most popular post was abolished yonks ago.
