Any opinions on gloss laminate kitchen worktops - heard mixed reviews about them so just asking a wider audience for opinions.
We're choosing a new kitchen and like the gloss worktops but am suspicious of their reistance to scuffs and scratches.
All help and advice gratefully received!

Haven't got them, but that's because when we were looking at kitchens, all the ones in the showrooms looked very very scratched which put me right off.
I'd advise having a look in places like B&Q etc and see how their showroom models have stood the test of time...0 -
Scratch, nightmare, wouldn't buy again.0

I am looking to purchase a kitchen. One independent I went to, actually told me that he was embarassed to have them in his show room and described how they scratch very easily.
I personally don't like them at all.0 -
agree with nsahackle. the kitchen man i ordered from warned me off of them.0

I have white marble-effect gloss worktops and use large glass worktops protectors on the areas I use the most. They are only about £5 each in Argos or Wilkinsons. They take all the punishment, double up as chopping boards/ bread boards, are heat-resistant and are easy to wash in the sink."Cheap", "Fast", "Right" -- pick two.0

IN our last kitchen the black gloss worktops showed up all the tiny scratches and also were very time consuming. I had to buff them up after wiping otherwise they showed up water marks which looked awful. Cost a fortune in kitchen towel until I discovered micro fibre clothes!
This time around we went for a brown toned much more mottled effect with an etched surface which is much easier to keep looking good.0 -
Thanks for all of the advice - it seems to be a big thumbs down then!0

you are right to give it the thumbs down secret dancer.
We design and sell kitchens and refuse to sell these worktops to anyone.
If you like the look you might want to consider granite  Yes I know its expensive but prices are coming down all the time and the finish is well worth the extra you spend. :j
Good luck with your new kitchen!!It is unwise to pay too much but it's worse to pay too little. When you pay too much, all you lose is a little money... that is all. When you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything because the thing you bought was incapable of doing the thing it was bought to do. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot...it can't be done. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better (John Ruskin - 19 ctry author, art critic & social reformer)0 -
Will have to see what the boss says then!
Are there no positive comments out there at all??!0 -
Just to add that my sister had the same black gloss worktops as me and is planning to replace her kitchen in the next couple of months. She is going for granite this time around but it was just too expensive for me to consider.
Personally I think they are a bit like laminate flooring ie. definitely had it's day!0
