anyone know any particularly good ones, or where to get the best prices?
friend of mine bought the Amcor AMC12000M, 12,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner for £225 four weeks ago, but now seems to be costing £285.
thanks for any help

Hello baconbarris
I've sent you two private messages.
Nile10 Dec 2007 - Led Zeppelin - I was there. :j :cool2: I wear my 50 (gold/red/white) blood donations pin badge with pride. Give blood, save a life. 0 -
I'm also looking for an aircon unit. Does anyone know where I can get one - everywhere I've looked seems sold out (Surprise surprise)
Looking to spend £200-£300 max
Thanks in advance0 -
same here...looking for a portable air con...about 10000-12000 BTU for use in my home...looking for 2 of these...if someone could provide links or let me know where in the central/NW london area I can get these I will really appreciate it!
Thx0 -
maybe we should sweat this summer through and then buy them in the sales later on in the year, ready for next year. Although, knowing our summers we may not get another one for about ten years
It is unwise to pay too much but it's worse to pay too little. When you pay too much, all you lose is a little money... that is all. When you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything because the thing you bought was incapable of doing the thing it was bought to do. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot...it can't be done. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better (John Ruskin - 19 ctry author, art critic & social reformer)0 -
Can we all have the private messages?0

I totally agree, for the few weeks max that it is to hot to sleep I'm not willing to pay over the odds for a air con unit and I'll be waiting for the season to end. What I do know is that you need a good one to do the job correctly and I would avoid the cheap ones in Argos as they generate more heat than they cool as well as having to empty the water daily and stick and big pipe out of a window.babe_ruth wrote:maybe we should sweat this summer through and then buy them in the sales later on in the year, ready for next year. I have two of the "cheap ones in Argos" and they cool both our bedroom and living room down VERY nicely and I have not had to empty them once since I bought them (2 years ago). They are also "A" rated for electrical efficiency and can be picked up for £150 when on offer from Argos (and Homebase).
Yes, you do need to stick the big pipe out the window - as you do with ANY mobile air conditioning unit...
Thanks

Darn! I was hoping to be able to find one that does not require a pipe.gavinp wrote:Yes, you do need to stick the big pipe out the window - as you do with ANY mobile air conditioning unit...
How can it be a mobile unit if it's attached to a pipe? What if you don't have a window in close proximity?
