Drainage for Beetrot in containers?!!

Help please Im growing beetroot in a container- I have one of those big fishmonger polystyrene boxes Ive punched a few more holes in the bottom. Do I need crockery in the bottom as well?? thanks for your help!

last year I sowed some beetroot in modules and never got round to planting it out - it still managed to make quuite a few big beets in modules with minimal compost - I think it will be fine in a container, and I would not add any drainage materials, as root veg does not like finding itself sitting on sharp stones etc!
