any help welcome!
I want to back up everything on my G5 Mac [runs Snow Leopard).
I upgraded to Snow Leopard after buying the Mac last summer, and have the SL DVD.
I've got a Maxtor HD but aren't sure what steps to take the back up process through, IYSWIM.
Do I connect the HD to the Mac, then insert the Snow Leopard disk with Alt held down? (I used to do something like that with the last Mac).
If someone could talk me through the steps, I'd be really grateful, big thanks

OK, you either don't have a G5 Mac, or you aren't using Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6). Snow Leopard will only run on an Intel Mac.
However, if you're using OS X 10.5 or greater, you can just use Apple's Time Machine to backup your files.0 -

Hmmm, didn't explains self too well there did I.
Yes, it's a G5 and I got the Snow Leopard upgrade or whatever you call it after I bought the Mac, SL appeared last autumn I think.
Anyway, I'll look to use Time Machine for the back-up, but if I wanted to back up onto the external HD too, to get a back up out of the house, is that possible to do?0 -
correction - it is an Intel Mac - ...shakes head hopelessly...0

Time Machine will only back up to an external HDD; that's what it's for.
Click the link in my post above to learn how to set it up. It's ridiculously simple.0 -
sorry, I didn't see that.
Now I do and yes it's simple. Thanks very much for that, appreciated.0
