Wills

Hello everyone, not sure if I'm in the right place but here goes...
Hope someone could help me.

I don't have a will. I live alone in my own flat and I am divorced. If this is relevant... I didn't sign a clean break arrangement but ex is now remarried.

What would happen to my estate if I don't have a will? Would my ex have a claim on it?

It would be divided between children if you have any; if not your nearest living relatives.

It would be well worth making a will. A straightforward one wouldn't be costly.

Words, words, they're all we have to go by!.

Thank you, and I forgot to say I have no children...
It's one of those things that I really should do but haven't got around to it, but if I do one at least I know it's all going where I want!

You can see which of your relatives would inherit by working your way down this list - https://www.hmcourts-service.gov.uk/infoabout/civil/probate/why_will.htm#chart

You would only need a straightforward will so it wouldn't cost too much. What may be more important to you as you have no spouse or children is to make arrangements in case you become unable to manage your affairs in the future. Who do you want to make decisions about your health? Who do you want to arrange a care home or extra support in your own home should the need arise?

Thanks very much. That's not something I had considered, so I appreciate you pointing this out.
