Can I put hot/warm chicken straight into the fridge......

Or should it be left to cool down first?

I know, one of Life's really important questions!

Thanks

You can and it wont harm the chicken (the opposite in fact) but it forces to the fridge to work very hard, meaning it costs you more in electricity and ultimately forces your great-grandchildren to resort to eating cockroaches in the antarctic. But the chicken will be sorted.
And if, you know, your history...

    Let it cool down first.
I normally leave mine in the microwave for a few hours (turned off of course)

No you should leave it to cool, you will only warm everything else up in fridge. Plus condensation on everything.
  • It should be cooled as quickly as possible, but putting it in the fridge hot also puts other foods in the fridge at risk as it raises the temperature. Placing it in a deep bowl and then placing that bowl into another, larger, bowl with very cold water in it will help it cool more quickly.
