These are great I have grown them for the last few years, if you put them in a pot and grow them up a sunny wall or fence you will get absolutely loads of courgettes off of one plant. You have to keep tying them to something so as to support the weight of the courgettes.

I have used fairly big planters say 14 inches across the top you have to keep them well watered and fed. I did plant one in the garden once, but the yield wasnt so great.

I'm probably going to give them a go this year..it makes sense to grow upwards as courgettes take so much space.

Checked out 2 garden centres today and neither had the Black Forest in stock.

Thought i'd bump this thread from a while back now that I have some experience of growing climbing courgettes and also courgettes seem to be very popular on this board.

I'm growing mine in SE Scotland. I've got 3 plants in the greenhouse and 1 in a pot outside. The 1 in the pot is producing courgettes, but not many. However, the 3 in the greenhouse are doing fantastic! The tallest is probably about 7ft now. It got to about 5ft before I decided to run some garden wire across the greenhouse so that it could grow horizontally - which it was more than happy to do! It's important not to let the courgettes grow too big because obviously too much weight will damage the plant. The greenhouse gives the plants ideal growing conditions and of course the protection that it offers means that the plants should last longer than those outdoors as the colder weather approaches. They only take as much floor space as tomatoes and can of course be trained up to the top of the roof.

I'm definitely going to try them again next year...
