Anyone heard of pro-sellers?

Hi!

I'm selling my car through autotrader, and today I have had two phone calles, right after each other. The first was from a person called Michelle at pro-sellers. She said that they were a finance complany and would arrange for people to see my car, and would give me the full asking price (£2450) for it. I listened and I'm always suspicious of people (lol) and when she said that they would charge me £79 and then give it back to me once the car was sold, I promptly said no thanks.

Then I put the phone done, and a different woman called back. I explained that I'd just said no 2 seconds ago, and she said 'oh, that was pro-sellers, we're pro-seller'...? She then said the same spiel as Michelle, gave me the same reference number, and then said that because my car is valued at £2800, they'd be prepared to give me £2700 for it, when I'm only asking for £2450?!?! This time they wanted £79.95 (which I'd get back), so I said no thanks again. I'm not sure what it all was about, to be honest.

They basically both said that they were a finance company, and that they had 6 people lined up in my area who they would send to look at my car. They have already been pre-approved for an amount higher than what I want for my car, so they have the cash to buy it and are not time wasters. They both wanted to arrange viewings for tonight or tomorrow. But even if they are legitimate, are they offering me higher than my asking price to get some poor person further into debt?

I haven't had any dealings with the companies mentioned but have have come across similar stories of such companies. People pay the admin, no one turns upto view car, car doesn't sell via said company so seller looses admin fee. I have said to a number of companies when they've called me in the past that I would happily pay the admin fee when the car had bben sold to one of their many prospective buyers, but not before the deal is done. Non have been happy to take me up on my offer.

I think the reason they say they are 'prepared' to pay more than your asking price is just to hook you into their service. Don't worry about people being put more into debt, there probabbly aren't any buyers anyway.

These Canvassers are a waste of speace, time and money. Hang up and dont even entertain them. You pay their fee and then they tell you they will arrange viewings for you. Half the time nobdy turns up, you complain and they say they are sorry but what can they do if the people decide not to turn up. They promise to try harder, thats it.

You hand over your hard earned and they do nothing. Its as simple as that. Check the Autotrader and see how many adverts state "No Canvassers", probably about 90%. Ask yourself why.

Ah, I've never noticed anyone saying no canvessers, will try that next time.

Oviously I didn't take up their offer, I knew it sounded suss and I know that when something sounds too good to be true (we'll give you £2700 for your car even though you're asking £2450) then it usually is. I was just wondering what the deal was with them, but now you've both mentioned it, I realised that they said they'd give me my money back once the car was sold through them... but they didn't say anything about giving me my money back if they don't sell the car. So basically they want people to pay them to NOT sell their car! Lol, no thanks.

    Thanks for the replies guys!

I had similar experience when selling my car in Autotrader. A succession of people calling me saying they have people lined up to view and all I had to pay was a one off fee of £80. I told them to send them round and I'd pay when the money was in my pocket when it sold. Of course, they weren't interested. I can't abide all these scams! Always somebody wanting to rip somebody else off!
