Hey...
I am in need of some serious advice...
Basically i was banking with NatWest i had a current account with them and then sept 2006 i was beginning uni and i applied for a student account which was granted and i recieved an overdraft of 1250. I used both my student account and current account properly in the 1st year of uni....then came 2nd yr of uni and the debts started pilling on i increased my student overdraft to 1400 this still didnt help and then i applied for an overdraft on my current account and some how i was granted this over telephone banking...this was part way through my 2nd year...so came summer 2008 just before final (3rd) yr i was working and trying to clear both overdrafts therefore both were active....okay so i started 3rd year and i had some serious problems my landlord was made bankrupt therefore i lost my deposit etc and had to pay rent up front to stay in the property..then i had a car accident...problems were on the rise...i went to NatWest as i was down to my last pennies and they offered me a student credit card as i was somehow eligible for one..i agreed to this...they set up a direct debit for minimum payment from my current account which i thought was a gud idea...WISH I DIDNT DO THIS...so in the middle of 3rd year i was in some serious financial troubles and i couldnt even deposit a pound into my accounts...my parents and brother were paying my rent and living costs...
Finally i graduated from uni and returned home still unemployed and with endless mounts of debt on my plate...i was overdrawn on all 3 accounts and was incurring charges on a daily basis increasing my debt significantly....i was reciving benefits for jobseekers allowance which was getting paid into my barclays account beacuse it would have been pointless to pay it to NatWest because it would be paying off debt....finally NatWest defaulted me on all 3 accounts this was during july and august...i started to struggle majorly now as i was blacklisted from NatWest banking had to repay over 2500 pounds...so i got myself a job in november 2009 and have been employed since and pay NatWest 100 every month..
I was never made aware that bank charges could be reclaimed until november 2009 when the banks won the high court appeal and then i thought it was too late...
so i am writing today to find out if i could reclaim due to hardship suffered during the year 2008 and 2009? if so what would i have to do as i would appreciate if the default was lifted or some charges were refunded as i am struggling to pay the debt atm

That is where financial hardship is an issue because you are having your rent and living costs paid for by others and therefore would not necessarily be classed as being in financial hardship. I do think NatWest did not look at helping you that much apart from suggesting a credit card(have you considered reclaiming the charges on the credit card account)?
