I see, so generally it's best to pay annually? My mum was looking to buy me insurance for my birthday which is coming up soon but she wants to pay monthly[STRIKE]Seventeen[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]Eighteen[/STRIKE] Nineteen(!) year old student - dim at the best of times0

Usually when you pay monthy, there is an interest charge added to the premium so that is something to bear in mind.
tbh I don't think it matters whether you pay monthly or annually, tough in your friends case he might think differently!2014 Target;

Ah okay, I didn't know about the interest thing, thanks for that.[STRIKE]Seventeen[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]Eighteen[/STRIKE] Nineteen(!) year old student - dim at the best of times0

Quinn are a notorious Insurer...
I think the problem could be that they charge an extra premium when you pass your driving test, it could be that your friend had not informed them they had passed. Even if this is the case they would be on sticky ground refusing the claim.
Ask your friend to get ALL of the details and post it on the Insurance forum on MSE. Quinn are not popular with the MSE Insurance contributers so there will be plenty of us who will be happy to help them.

Hi
Just for the record, my son was (and is) insured by Quinn who were the cheapest by miles. He had a no fault claim shortly after passing his test and they were great.
We thought that their customer service would be dire because the cost was so cheap but we couldn't fault them.
Checked every year since for comparison quotes and they are still cheaper.The Cabbage

Would that be the same company that has this type of business practices?

I have to defend Quinn, they dealt with my claim very efficiently:
I insured with Quinn and managed to have an accident 2 days into the policy. Phoned Quinn and they told me where to get the car recovered to. 2 days later the car was officially written off. A Quinn Rep came to see me 3 days after that, I'd done my homework and knew what the car was worth but as Quinn offered me £450 more I didn't argue very hard!
Couldn't fault their customer service and I was sorry to leave them at the next renewal date, but they just couldn't compete with the cashback deal that Kwikfit were offering at the time.Some days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree!0
