Item not as described, How much refund am I entitled to?

I bought a reconditioned dvd recorder on ebay, it works and everything but the condition is not as described. Described as having a few light marks but they are in fact pretty deep scratches.
I have emailed the seller who said he will give me a refund but not on postage.
He charged me £11 for P+P so if i return it, I will lose out on the initial £11 and whatever it costs me to return it. Is that right or can I get my initial £11 back?

If you open a paypal claim paypal will tell you to return it for a full refund of original payment and original postage
So open a dispute and escalate as the seller is refusing to offer you this0 -
I can tell you, it won't cost you £11 to return it. More like £7 at the most
As it works ok, what about just asking him for a partial refund i.e. you keep the item but he refunds an agreed sum due to the undisclosed damage. That way it resolves the issue of returning it etc and you can both still leave positive feedback0 -
If you open up an "item not as described" claim, you will have to return it at your own cost (and you MUST send it tracked delivery), but you will then get your initial postage and item cost returned. The seller will have no choice over this.
It's up to you whether it's worth the cost of the return (tracked) postage.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0
