Selling very heavy second hand wardrobes

Hi there,
I'm wondering if anyone has any experience in selling large and heavy second hand furniture on ebay - particularly the courier aspect of the transaction.
I have two very large and heavy ornate vintage (not antique) French style wardrobes that I want to get rid of and think that they will be worth auctioning but don't really know how to go about estimating their weight for delivery.
Alternatively is it quite an easy and painless - and profitable - process to get them to a local auctioneers?
Thanks in advance,
Squee

Why offer delivery? List them as collection only - you would be suprised the distance people will travel if they want an item.
You can get the local auctioneers to pick them up but they will charge you for it, and there is no guarantee they will sell if they go into a general household auction.
If I have very bulky items, I list them as collection only but tell people that if they choose to have them shipped as a part load from a removal company then I am happy to liase with the removal company to arrange collection etc. They need to find said company and make the arrangements and payments necessary.Free/impartial debt advice: Consumer Credit Counselling Service (CCCS) | National Debtline | Find your local CAB0 -
Also check out shiply .com either you or the eventual buyer could place an advert. May be worth including in your listing even better if you have no rush for the items to be collected following the auction.
Saying that though the previous post 'collection only' is the best route....cash on collection wink wink0 -
I have sold and bought things on Ebay 'collection only' with much success. If there may be problems with getting items down stairs, into cars etc, then I would make that clear and even state that it will need a van/2 people to collect etc. And yes, I always put cash on collection preferred!!0

I think you will find you have to offer Paypal now, but can say cash on collection preferred.Slimming World at target0 -

You can't even say that cash on collection is preferred, all you can do is offer cash on collection as a payment option that buyers can still refuse.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Thanks for your help all - I think that 'collection only' is probs the way forward...I know it sounds a bit daft but I'm just not too keen on having 'strangers' round to the house.
Cheers again,
