Dyson versus Miele - what do you think?

I currently own a 3 year old Dyson DC 11 telescope cylinder. The suction is superb and the twin bin is a pleasure to empty. However, there are things about the cleaner that really frustrate me. It is very heavy and very, very noisy. I have read these criticisms on Amazon reviews, but I have other frustrations with my Dyson too. I have always found the pipe to be very stiff and inflexible which makes cleaning tedious. Most annoying of all, the telescopic tube doesn't seem to work as it should. I can either have it all the way up or all the way down, not at the exact length for a given task. Mine has always been like this so I presumed it to be a design fault. Considering how many other Dyson telescopes have been sold since mine first came out, surely they can't all be like that?

I looked at a Miele in John Lewis and the telescopic action of the pipe was truly superb. In fact the whole build quality looked amazing. The Hoover's and Electrolux near by looked cheap by comparison.

The trouble is I am wedded to the superb Dyson suction I get, but don't like using the cleaner for the reasons I explained. Has anyone ever crossed over from Dyson to Miele? Is there life after Dyson? Do these Miele bag cleaners lose suction? I certainly experienced that on a bagged Hoover I bought about 8 years ago. I'm also worried about paying for expensive bags, how much are the Miele ones?

Your comments oe experiences would be appreciated!

Cheers

    Hello MeganJodelle,
I have recently converted to Dyson from Morphy Richards and Electrolux. We opted for a DC14 due to our pets, and I absoloutely love it...hoovering was a task i detested before, as I never felt the carpets were 100% clean.Hubby and I both have allergies, and this Dyson has helped reduce them.

I feel that buying hoover bags is a waste of money personally. And simply emptying the bin bit is the best way to get rid of your dust n stuff.

We have telescopic on our Dyson and it is superb, its maybe improved since your last purchase.
Hope this helps a wee bit.

Have a search on the "In my home (includes DIY)" section. There are quite a few threads on both Miele & Dyson.

    Try searching for Miele first.

By the way. Miele are nearly always a best buy at Which, also they top the reliability charts, wheras Dyson seem to have poor reliability acording to Which!

I've got a Miele Cat and Dog, and I love it!

It doesn't lose suction until the bag is full which is handy as it prompts you to remove it. The bags I buy are £5.99 for a pack of 5, plus replacement filters from https://www.dustbag.co.uk

I've never used a Dyson, but love my Miele!
Here I go again on my own....

    Hi guys,

Thanks for the comments, keep 'em coming!!

Hi Carolnmalky, interesting to hear your telescopic tube is superb. Can you actually have it at differen't lengths, depending upon your cleaning requirements?

Suction wise, I do feel my carpets look superb after a good go with the Dyson and a full bin surely says it all? Maybe a Miele owner can challenge this view?

    Hi Becles,

Very interesting to hear you say you reckon your Miele never loses suction. I guess with a bag cleaner you simply tell by the actual feel of the suction at the attachment end?

Miele are great machines. I know a couple people who have had Dysons fail on them.
