I am with British Gas on a standard tariff. The bills have been a lot less than my last supplier, E'ON (leeches). The winter bill that is due this month is a lot higher than the other bills. I would like to start monitoring my usage and require an energy monitor.
Does anyone know of a good but fairly cheap monitor I can buy?
Is the standard tariff with B G necessarily the best tariff?
Thanks

You get a free one if you go onto British Gas EnergySmart, which is where you get a monthly bill. You can choose whether you want to pay via fixed direct debit (e.g. set £50 per month) or variable direct debit (only what you owe, this is how I do mine). If you view the bill online you can go onto OnlineSaver which gives you 3% off the bill. You get a free energy monitor and £20 per fuel after one year for trying it out. No cancellation fee, so I decided to go for it and I love it.
The 'best' tariff in terms of savings would be WebSaver6, where you get 6% off the bill, but I mention the energysmart because you then get the energy monitor, two birds and one stone haha.0 -
Any standard tariff is the most expensive you can get for a given supplier.
On-line tariffs are the most competitive, choosing carefully should get you a 20-30% saving on your current bill.
A simple way of monitoring your consumption is provided by i-Measure
