Advice on a dodgy buyer please...

Hi people,
I sold a modem / router thing on ebay a couple of weeks ago. Was having a mass clearout and got rid of a load of stuff, all went really well until the other day...
Basically the guy I sold this to is in Azerbaijan, I had to alter my settings to allow him to bid which I was happy enough to do, his feedback was all positive so I was not too concerned. So he wins the auction and I post the item. Now I hadn't used it in about 6 months but it was fully functional when I had last used. When he receives, well a couple of weeks after he received it he messages me saying that it is broken. I told him that it was working when sent but to check the manufacturers troubleshooting site if he was having problems (it was working in so much that it turned on at least). His reply was that he would not open a return (I had not mentioned this course of action to him) as this would cost him money to return it to me and that unless I suggested an alternative he would simply leave negative feedback. Upon closer inspection of his feedback I can see that some people who gave him positive feedback after he paid them have gone back to further comment that he had claimed their items were faulty too and asked for a refund. I suspect he is trying to scam me too, but wanted to ask what course of action is best to take - I am 99% confident that there is nothing wrong with the item.
Any advice appreciated, cheers!

Report to ebay for feedback extortion0 -
You could ask him to send it back to you via a trackable postal service and offer to pay? That's if it doesn't cost too much money. Not sure what postal service Azerbaijan has. At least then you can agree to cancel the transaction via ebay and hopefully he won't leave negative feedback.
But then again you could go through all that trouble and he will still leave negative! My daughters are my world0 -

I think i would just let him leave neg. just list a few more items to get your score to 98. something or above. 100% feedback for seller freaks me out a bit these days, the kind of creepy seller that puts sweets in your package... *shudders* most people know the game now and a neg or two dont really hurt if answered correctly. If i upset you don't stress, never forget that god aint finished with me yet.0 -
I have 100% feedback (600 feedbacks). I'm not creepy and don't put sweets in my packages, lol! However I have bought things from people who have!My daughters are my world0

I have 100% feedback (800+) and am not at all creepy and don't send sweets either. I don't object to receiving some nice gifts with my purchases!
I have heard other people say they are suspicious of sellers with a perfect feedback record. Is ebay the only place in the retail world where having lots of good reviews is seen as a negative?!!0 -
