Memory foam vs latex for a bed.....

My wife and I have been looking at a new super king sized bed and we've today gone into our local Co-Op and seen a very comfy Slumberland Alize 800 for £1000 but there is a members sale next weekend which gives an additional 20% off making it £800!

The only hesitation is I dont know if Slumberland are supposed to be any good (the sales lady said you get 1 year guarantee then a further 11 years warrantee) and also its apparently a latex topped bed as opposed to memory foam.
Now she said that latex was better as it doesnt transfer your body heat as much as memory foam!?!?!

Can anyone shed any light on the quality of this bed and also whether latex is better than memory foam??

Thanks for any opinions....

I found memeory foam uncomfortable so didn't buy one.

Apparently in summer months many people complain that memory foam beds get too hot.

I have heard the same as davetrousers, my DD (adult) bought a latex
one from Ikea and its really comfortable.
I really do think that memory foam is overrated.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

Thanks for the quick replies - that seems to support what the woman in the shop was saying!

Now, does anyone know much about the Slumberland beds? Particularly the Alize 800 model?? I dont want to be having to get a new bed in 5 years!!!

Also, does £800 seem reasonable? I really have no idea which on-line retailers to look at!!

    Thanks

I recently bought a latex-topped mattress (a La Romantica Vienna, with Talalay latex) and can honestly say it is the most comfortable mattress I've ever slept on. I actually look forward to going to bed of an evening !!

Have a look here for the king size version.

Slumberland beds have been around for donkey's years, I would think that speaks for itself and £800 is not a bad price at all for a super kingsize with mattress.

Latex is very comfy, but I have had a memory foam bed for 10 or 12 years now and wouldn't swap it for anything - not over-rated at all in my experience...but of course it's each to their own!
I let my mind wander and it never came back!

    I wouldn't pay £800 for a Slumberland.

Also do you understand how the warranty works?

Thanks for the in-depth analysis!!! And yes, thanks, I'm able to understand how a warranty works, despite posting on here for some assistance I'm not completely stupid!

If you "wouldnt pay £800 for a Slumberland" - would you mind explaining why and what you WOULD pay £800 for???

Sorry that my reply was so breif.......I was just on my way out so didn't have time to go into detail.

Most people think that a warranty is the same as a guarantee, but if you read the t&c's it isn't.

If you want good quality for a good price, then stay well away from big brands, and big chain stores. Instead shop on line from a seller who gives a proper satisfaction guarantee that allows you to unpack and sleep on the mattress.

If you are going for a mattress that contains latex then be very careful, as many of them only have a very thin layer, and this is often only in zones. Try and go for one with a full 2" layer. If you can find one then go for a two sided mattress as this will last far longer than a non turn one.

:D Sorry 'bout that (to Tim I mean!) It was a snap post while I was walking out the door too - it was just too brief - it really bugs me when you get a reply with no supporting comments (ie. not too helpful!) but to be fair to Tim, his last post is useful! (although I still have no idea which online retailers are any good!)
