What the other half thinks.

I seen a house i really liked today, my husband also seen a house he really liked today.

Pity its not the same one.

How many of you have experienced that while viewing houses to buy?

  • This happened to us. Have you seen each other's houses? I'd make sure each of you has viewed the two in contention in person.
Then it's a case of deciding between you what the pros and cons are for each. (and there will be pros and cons...)

In our case, he liked a house with no parking (and a parking nightmare on the road - which was a no no for me) BUT, you live in your house, not the car, and I was prepared to explore other options (selling one car, getting a permit to park in the nearby council car park) And likewise with one I liked.

In the event, we went for a different one - BUT the house he liked was still there in contention until the bitter end. Even though it had some drawbacks (IMO) I had to admit it was a lovely house and it would have suited us!
It's early days - ask lots of questions and find out as much as you can about each house (and don't be too proud to compromise)

But more importantly - BOTH of you have to live there once you've bought it - Good luck!

YES! This is how it happened with me.

I fell in love with the house, whilst my OH found fault with it!

In the end i talked him into it and we're very happy here now. We have what i consider to be the best plot on the estate (if you dont mind mowing the lawns) and the bits of the house that dont suit us can always been changed. He's constantly coming up with plans to extend this and knock down that, i just nod and smile. Whatever keeps him happy...

I found a perfect house - except the garden was too steep for him

He found a perfect house - except it was too big for just the two of us and needed far too much renovation (garden was good though!)

We are buying a totally different one :-) smaller, still needs work but with a good flat garden :-)
