Hi de hi
My antispyware program runs out on 31st July and I'm looking for a new one (not Windows Defender - I can't download it because I'm a dirt stinkin' fraudster according to Microsoft) I bought an ex-demo PC from the local Tiny showroom and the licence key said Windows Me but they loaded Win XP Pro for me as a "bonus" but no licence key/flawed one. Now they're bankrupt so I've got nothing to fall back on/nobody tro shout at
Anyway
anyone know of a good program for antui-spyware? I'm running the free versions of ZoneAlarm and Avast Antivirus. I'm just missing the Anti-Spyware side of things.
Cheers

I use spybot search and destroy http://www.safer-networking.org/
in conjunction with ad-aware http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/"She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

ohhhh... does that mean I have to install and run another two programs?0

I'd go for Ewido, it keeps itself up to date on a daily basis, you can download a 30 full demo which then reverts to it basic form which is free.

I run Spybot and Adaware as well, though Ewido usually finds more.
If you haven't already got it download Crap Cleaner as well to get rid of all the accumulated junk. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -

They're not big programs and I think it's important to have both because they don't necessarily look for the same things. You won't regret using them, I promise. That's a slap me with a wet fish if you're not satisfied guarantee."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

I go along with Ewido too, it does seem to find more than spybot0

I'm giving ewido a try now, I'm sure about half my software is now dedicated just to pc protection and maintenance."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

You need a decent AV like AVG or Kaspersky. Then a firewall, both AVG and Kaspersky do one, or the dreaded Norton Fireall or NIS
. Use a safer Browser like Firefox (not IE 6) and for Malware Ewido fits the bill. Aslo if you use XP install sp2 if you havent alreday done so along with security updates. I regularly update all signatures and updates for all software. I check almost daily

Surely all I need is a Firewall [ZoneAlarm], a virus scanner with rea-time protection [Avast] and the anti-spyware [AdAware]??
My PC is already slow enough to start up with all these programs and I'm really not sure about clogging it with more0 -
There isn't a single piece of anti-spyware that will catch everything, ad aware as it's name implies is only really good for adware but not very good with spyware. Poppycat is right that as a general rule you should always make sure you are up to date with windows critical updates. You don't need most of the antispyware programs running in real time anyway, just do regular scans every so often, so it won't take up computer resources."She is quite the oddball.
