Hi all sorry if this is in the wrong place. I believe that the army has a policy on how much debt you can/cannot have when they are considering your application. Can anyone point me to the right place to check this out? I can't find it on their website?

From the Army Rumour Service:...a rough guideline for debt on applying for the Army, and i do say guideline because it centres around an average based on a third of your monthly pay as a new entrant.
If you are paying out more than £275 a month whilst in training on unsecured debts (and by that i mean anything that the creditor can't take back to wipe the debt so to speak, so we are talking money that is secured on cars, motorbikes, property etc etc) is deemed too excessive to be manageable and you then become a risk to train.
So if you are carrying debts into the Army then as long as your monthly payments are under the guideline and you can justify them it really shouldnt be a problem, but they do have to be noted.
In a lot of cases i have known creditors to defer payment until after training, i have seen parents write guarantor statements explaining that they will be responsible for the bills etc whilst their son or daughter go through training, as i said its a guideline, but it is viewed case by case
