Eon want to to charge me to change card meters back to credit!
Options
I have both gas and electric card/quantum meters in my owned house. I was on direct debit with credit meters up until about 3 years ago but was underpaying on my monthly payments and ended up with a bill of nearly £1000 for underpayment
The best solution i could come to with eon at the time*had just lost my job too) was to have prepayment meters fitted. I was advised it's a temporary thing and once debt cleared then ring them back to get my credit meters put back in
Well, said debt cleared. Rang Eon up for my credit meters back and they said there will be a charge of £50 per meter!!! I told them this can't be right and asked why I wasn't advised of this charge when making the decision to have them in, but all they suggested is save up to have them done 1 an a time!!!
Never right surely!!???
I am keen to get the credit meters put back in, not only to find the best deal to switch to but the card thing is a nuisance to me as my nearest paypoint is 3 miles away
Anyone know how I can get out of having to pay these charges?
Thanks in advance

Contract other suppliers and see if they will swap the meters for free if you switch to them. Bear in mind that you will need to pass the credit check or you may have to pay a deposit.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

Yes it's right, Eon do charge the customer to change the meter.
It's surprising they agreed to give you a credit meter. Usually when a customer is forced into taking a PPM due to an outstanding debt they cannot afford to pay, Eon will never re-install a credit meter in that property whilst under the same account holder."Now to trolling as a concept. .... suppliers will also demand a deposit if your credit rating is not high enough0

...but said deposit is usually refundable after a year0

Hi Dazle,
I have to agree with Premier. E.ON would not normally put credit meters back in to a property that has had a pre-payment installed to collect a debt.
However, each account will be looked at individually and a decision will be made.
The charge is to cover the cost of the appointment, an external credit check will be completed and a Direct Debit would need to be set up for future usage. These are the guidelines that E.ON follow on the removal of pre-payment meters
