I have an aversion to soap! I hate the slimey feel of it so prefer liqiuid soap for washing hands and shower gel.

Me too, I use Boots Lavender Handwash, often on 3 for 2, I have a stockpile of it in the airing cupboard with the loo rolls.

    Mortgage-free Glee!
Thanks for the congrats, next week will be the real test though. I still want to do 2 trips a week because I like using my vouchers and don't like handing too many over in one go. So next week I hope to keep it down to £65 or less. That would be a saving of £10 on my usual £75 spend, which would be a great start.

Where do you get your vouchers and which shop are they for?

  • Justine - I'm not sure whether you use coupons or not but I always try to get a hold of coupons I can use in any shop. I do my shopping mainly in Asda now, but also use Tesco. I used to always shop in Tesco as I liked their Clubcard, so with them I could use my vouchers to get money off and also receive clubcard points for money off vouchers for the future. Unfortunately Tesco is terrible for changing it's mind every 5 minutes about taking money-off coupons, so I only go in there for bargains. I do still hand over coupons and sometimes they are accepted, sometimes they are not.
Asda, thankfully take all my vouchers, as long as they stock the product. I tend to send for samples of anything if I know a voucher comes along with it. https://www.shave.com is excellent, they send you out a King Of Shaves sample and a £1 voucher, Quorn used to be good, but I haven't received anything off them for ages. I also email compliments now and again to different companies and receive vouchers quite often doing this. The other thing I do is complain about anything I'm really not happy about. I never make up complaints, but in the past I would just throw something in the bin if it tasted bad. Now I don't!

I tried shave.com yesterday but they have a daily allowance of free sample requests and it was used up. Tried again just now and requested my free sample, so its worth checking every day if you cant get it the first time.

I have to hang my head in shame as my shop today for the week was just a few pence over £44 and there's only two of us. However, in my defence we did get loads of things that were on offer (stocking up, I call it!), plus it was one of those weeks where we'd run out of most things - mouthwash, toothpaste (on offer), breakfast cereal, flour, baking powder. You get the picture. So, we won't have to buy any of that for quite some time. Honest.

Vicky did you get brand name cereal though? Would you notice the difference between brand and shops own cereal? Just thinking because I bet school used to buy cheap stuff and you ate that for long enough. And could you have got any of your stock items any cheaper?

Well I took out £100 for 2 for a month and have been planning meals and only buying what I needed. I now have £9.15 left until 16th (I get paid mid month). Saturday I only needed a few things in Asda but got 4 salmon steaks for £2, and a boneless lamb joint for £4.12, it was reduced from £7 though which seems a lot, oh and I got some pork mince for 69p. So that's meat that'll do for a few of next months meals anyway.

All I'll need to buy this weekend is bread flour, eggs and fruit so I'm doing well. Next month I'll reduce the budget by £10 and see how I go. Anything I have left over this month will go straight towards an extra payment on the credit card. I'm also back to using the bike for work so my fuel bill will be less too.
